Givenchy Spring 2012 Menswear

Birds of paradise, how peaceful! Not that Ricardo Tisco wasn’t into peace in his previous Givenchy collections, but for spring 2012, it was more visually visible. No more that dark gothic palette, everything just seemed lighter and definitely more nonchalant. The whole collection also felt really ethereal, so much so that the army green did not seem to remind you of war. And that of course, as long as you had no idea that one of the models(Caesar Stovall) is actually in the army.

I thought the light colour palette of white and pastel felt a little Jil Sander-ish which I believe is a good thing since it gave that certain minimalism chic to counterbalance the full-blown print. The glittery sequins indeed made things merrier. I thought it was too much at first, but then I kinda dig it. Perhaps not on print, but that army green sequined jumper sweater is beyond amazing!

As far as the silhouette was concerned, it was just not something that I was really fond of mainly because I think it just won’t work fabulously on les tres petit garcons like me. However, having said that, I really believe some pieces would definitely do a trick or two brilliantly. For instance, the cropped jumper was a very smart play with proportion, plus I’ve always loved hemlines to be above waistline on the front and lower on the back. That means another credit to Ricardo Tisci for yet another collection with a very edgy cut. That goes to you to, amazing pattern-makers at La Maison Givenchy. After all, it’s Givenchy honey. It’s couture, it’s couture!
