Lanvin Spring 2012 Menswear

It’s not that often you get to see full-blown experimentation going on mens runway, but that certainly isn’t the case with Lanvin. Season after season, Alber Elbaz and Lucas Ossendrijver keep pushing the boundaries and seem to never cease to amaze everyone with the outcome. Spring 2012 is no exception. Not only the cuts and silhouette got big jolts, the fabrics too got their fair share of Alber and Lucas’ genius touches.

I believe what’s really great about this collection(just like the previous ones) is the fact that it really is about a balance proportion and a strong sense of hybrid. The silhouette especially is always a combination of oversized tops and skinny bottoms or the other way around. Not only that, the essence of hybrid could also be easily seen through the mixture of structure and slouch. I especially love how they paired the military-ish mao-collared jacket and techno-print skinny pants. I thought it was indeed a fresh and edgy mix-and-match which seemed to work perfectly well.

The colour palette also seemed as diverse as the house’s demographic. Dark shades evoked that certain formality while the mix-colours of the techno-print gave a strong sense of youthfulness. Is it hippie or is it happy? Well, when it is this good, does it really matter? The merge between these two ends kinda reminds you that before Lanvin menswear was first worshipped by fashionable youngsters, it had already went through a very long phase of mens tailoring period serving French aristocrats.
