Rick Owens Spring 2012 Menswear
Menskirts and Mresses. Might seem tacky and stuffy at first, but the easiness of the colour palette and the strong yet laidback feels about the silhouette which is neither skinny nor baggy pretty much make the collection a tremendous winner. Every piece was as avant garde as menswear could be yet wearable enough to succeed in the mainstream fashion.
You still get the goth*duh, it’s Rick Owens* vibe in the whole collection, but instead of the angry one, the story is more likely about the peace between angels and demons. Black and white dominates the whole collection yet there is still a strong earthy palette that beautifully bridges the two. I thought the geometric print was a little tad too current, I’m not sure if I like it. But, if today’s market of commercial fashion is by any means a vital indication, then the print would no doubt give a security to the rather against-the-grain collection.
The runway show was indeed a feast to the eyes, but it left me wonder how those layering would translate into spring fashion, let alone a blazing hot tropical weather. Well, I guess it was probably just a matter a styling, because if taken separately, every piece can easily be worn without any fuss. I mean really, those middle easterns, they work those long outfits all year round. So, if they can do it, so do us fashonistos! :)
Now onto my favourite pieces, I have to go with my obsession with texture. And these jackets definitely make the cut. The crumple effect kinda reminds me of Lebanese couturier, Rabih Kayrouz. Ahh, those sumptuous heavy pleats dresses.. j’adoreeeeee!
As for the overall look, this one has to be it. The colour palette, the subtlety of the layering, the infamous Rick Owens boots, it just ticks all the boxes!
The rest of the collection..
